Gillian Overland, Esq. and Overland Law & Mediation Firm have received an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating (the highest possible rating based on legal ability and ethical standards) from Martindale-Hubbell.  Martindale-Hubbell evaluates attorneys and law firms in the United States and Canada, based on confidential opinions of other attorneys and judges.  It is a significant accomplishment to be rated AV, and Overland Law & Mediation Firm is honored to have this title.  Martindale-Hubbell, which has been in business for more than 130 years, is the most widely consulted legal reference source by attorneys and other professionals.

The Components of a Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating

Martindale-Hubbell ratings are determined by attorneys for attorneys through a peer review process, and have two components – the Legal Ability Rating and the General Ethical Standards Rating.  The Legal Ability rating evaluates an attorney’s standard of professional ability in his or her practice area.  The General Ethical Standards Rating is an indication of an attorney’s standards of conduct and ethics.  The only rating available is a “V,” which stands for “very high.”  An attorney must receive this General Ethical Standards Rating in order to receive a Legal Ability Rating.

Legal Ability Ratings

Based on peer reviews, three ratings are available for a lawyer’s standard of professional ability.  An “A” is given if an attorney is deemed to have “very high to preeminent” legal ability, a “B” identifies an attorney who is deemed to have  “high to very high” legal ability, and a “C” is given if an attorney is deemed to have “good to high” legal ability.

The AV rating is earned by only a small number of law firms and attorneys considered to have "Preeminent Legal Ability" with the highest standard of ethical and professional conduct.
